Privacy Policy

TRM RESPECTS YOUR PRIVACY

TRM Technologies Inc. (“TRM”) treats our communications on the Internet with respect for, and with commitment to protecting, your privacy rights. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, protect, use and share information gathered about you on our website (the “Site”). We hope that this disclosure will help increase your confidence in the Site and enhance your experience on the Internet. Please note that by visiting TRM at the Site, you are accepting the practices described in this Policy.

TRM will continue to review the Policy to ensure that it is relevant and remains current with changing laws, regulations and technologies, and reserves the right to change this Policy at any time. Our Policy will be kept up to date and clearly posted on the Site, and will be current as of the “Last modified date” set out above. However, while the Policy may change, TRM will treat your personal information in a manner consistent with the Policy under which it was collected, unless TRM has your consent to treat it differently.

WHAT INFORMATION IS COLLECTED?

TRM collects information to provide client services, to better understand client preferences, and to obtain feedback.  The information that TRM collects is broadly grouped into two categories: (i) Personal Information, and (ii) Aggregate Information.

WHAT IS PERSONAL INFORMATION?

"Personal information" is any information about an identifiable person. TRM collects your personal information on the Site from you, to be used for the purposes identified to you at the time of collection (the “Identified Purposes”). For example, TRM may collect your first and last name, email address and subject of inquiry (e.g. event registration), for the purpose of sign-up for a TRM-sponsored event, or to respond to your specific requests for information.

WHAT IS AGGREGATE INFORMATION?

“Aggregate information” is standard web server/visitor traffic information, general non-specific & demographic information (non Personal Information) commonly referred to as ‘aggregate information’, regarding overall website traffic patterns. We do not report on individual user sessions. Web servers normally collect this type of basic information as part of their web log processes. This aggregate information does not identify you and thus does not constitute personal information.
In addition to information provided by our visitors we use the normal Internet tracking tools associated with standard Internet protocols and web–based systems. This system information is typically stored in log files and the information is used for aggregate reporting. Aggregate reporting includes total number of visitors, most visited sections, peak traffic times, etc. Log files are simply transaction records web servers maintain. Those logs are used for recording information, such as:

  • service provider IP addresses;
  • browser versions;
  • referring websites;
  • search terms used;
  • average number of pages requested;
  • average duration of visit;
  • total visitor traffic.

We use aggregate information gathered from your visit to better design our website. This information supplies us with a broad picture of how people use our website in order to help the management of our systems and to better serve our audience.

HOW DO WE PROTECT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION? OUR COMMITMENT TO DATA SECURITY

In order to prevent unauthorized access, maintain the accuracy of your personal information and ensure that your personal information is used and disclosed only pursuant to this Policy, TRM strives to maintain physical, electronic, contractual and administrative safeguards to secure your personal information we collect from the Site with a level of security that is appropriate to the sensitivity of the personal information collected.

DO WE SHARE INFORMATION?

Your personal information will not be shared with, disclosed, sold, traded or rented to any third parties and is collected for our express internal use.  However TRM may disclose your personal information to any of our affiliates and / or TRM’s service providers if it is required in order for us to provide our services to you.   In such cases where TRM discloses personal information to our affiliates or service providers, we will require those organizations or individuals to use such information solely for the purposes of providing services to TRM, its members or the person concerned and to have appropriate safeguards for the protection of that personal information.

Please note that there are circumstances where the use and/or disclosure of personal information may be justified or permitted or where TRM is obliged to disclose information without consent.  Such circumstances may include:

i) Where required by law or by order or requirement of a court, administrative agency or governmental tribunal;

ii) Where TRM believes, upon reasonable grounds, that it is necessary to protect the rights, privacy, safety or property of an identifiable person or group;

iii) Where it is necessary to establish or collect monies owing to TRM;

iv) Where it is necessary to permit TRM to pursue available remedies or limit any damages that we may sustain; or

v) Where the information is public.

Where obliged or permitted to disclose information without consent, TRM will not disclose more information than is required.
